1930–2011, U.S. government official, b. Milwaukee. A career diplomat, he joined the Foreign Service in 1957 and held a series of embassy, State Dept., national security, and Defense Dept. posts, including serving as a senior aide to Henry KissingerKissinger, Henry Alfred, 1923–, American political scientist and U.S. secretary of state (1973–77), b.
