Astrakhan Fish Canning and Freezing Combine

a large fishing industry enterprise of the USSR (in the city of Astrakhan, on the shore of the Bolda—one of the branches of the delta of the Volga). It was built in 1931. The unloading of fish from the boats into the shops and its conveyance for processing are mechanized. The combine includes canning and sardine plants equipped with mechanized production lines. The plants produce preserves; canned fish in tomato sauce, in oils (of the type used in canning sardines and sprats), and with vegetables (about 41 percent of the total production of canned fish in the Caspian); and also prepared food. The combine has two powerful fish freezers; an oil and meal plant which uses the fish scraps and sprats to make feed meal, glue, oil, concentrate of vitamin A in oil, and oyster paste; and a tin can factory. The combine’s output is exported to many countries of the world. It was awarded the Order of Lenin in 1966.
