Calville Blanche

 

(in Russian, Calville white winter), variety of apple of French origin. The fruits are large, weighing(300-500 g); they are shaped like flattened ribbed spheres and areyellow with a slight blush. The flesh is yellow, juicy, tart, andaromatic. The fruits are eaten fresh. The variety requires specialsoil, climate, and care. It bears abundantly on dwarf stocks butpoorly on ordinary ones. It is also used in tub gardening. Thisvariety is distributed throughout Western Europe. In the USSRit is grown in the Ukrainian SSR, the Georgian SSR, and thesouthern RSFSR.
