Blagoveshchenka

urban-type settlement; administrative center of Blagoveshchenka Raion, Altai Krai, RSFSR. Located near Lakes Kulunda and Kuchuk. Railroad station (Novoblagoveshchenka) on the Barnaul-Kulunda line. Population, 18,800 (1968). Industry consists of the Kukchuk sulfate combine, a butter and cheese combine, and a poultry farm. Blagoveshchenka has a medical school and a building-trades technicum.
