Cyma, Ionic

Cyma, Ionic

an architectural detail, a molding that is formed by the combination of two conjugate curves (convex and concave). The convex arc has larger radius of curvature than the convex arc of a Doric cyma. According to where the convex arc is located (above or below), two types are distinguished: the cyma recta (used in capitals and cornices) and the cyma reversa (often used in the bases of columns and in socles).
