单词 | fanzines |
释义 | fanzinesfanzinesmagazines dealing with a single aspect of popular culture, which are produced on photocopiers or small presses by fans for fans, and circulated mainly by other means than through mainstream commercial channels. Providing an alternative to the products of mass publishing and the mass entertainment industry, fanzines in the UK, such as Sniffin Glue or When Saturday Comes, have proliferated over the last 15 years, dealing especially with rock and pop music and also with football. Fanzines can be seen as enabling a ‘users’ view’ (and sometimes also a radical reinterpretation or defence) of popular cultural forms by people who would otherwise be excluded from any means of written expression about, or control over, mainstream institutions in the production of MASS CULTURE. As such, they can be seen as an example of the existence of a continued ‘contestation’ over cultural institutions of the kind suggested by sport and leisure theorists such as Gruneau (1982 and 1983) and Donnelly (1988) – see Jary et al. (1991). |
