Blanda, George (Frederick)

(1927– ) football player; born in Youngwood, Pa. After an unheralded college career at the University of Kentucky, he became an outstanding professional quarterback and deadly-accurate place-kicker for Chicago, Houston, and Oakland, playing longer than any player had ever before. In a 26-season pro career (1949–58, 1960–75), he passed for 236 touchdowns and scored an all-time league record 2,002 points, all but 54 by kicking.
