The most important camphoraceous plants include the garden basil, which is a tropical shrub of the family Labiatae native to southern Africa, and the camphor tree. The garden basil is grown in the USSR as an annual plant. The camphoraceous Siberian fir is native to the USSR. Its needles are the source of borneol, from which camphor is obtained.
