a village (the city of Abovian in the Armenian SSR since 1963) near which were excavated a settlement (1927–28) and a burial ground (1960–62; 17 burials have thus far been studied) dating from the late stage of the Kura-Araks Aeneolithic culture (end of the third millennium B.C). The remains of round dwellings, large grain pits with grains of wheat, and entire skeletons of domestic animals were discovered at the settlement. The burials were in cists and clay chambers, with the skeletons lying on the right side in a flexed position. The burial inventory included black polished clay vessels, various ornaments, and articles made of bone and metal.
