elasticity number 1 elasticity number 1[i‚las′tis·əd·ē ¦nəm·bər ¦wən] (fluid mechanics) A dimensionless number which is a measure of the ratio of elastic forces to inertial forces on a viscoelastic fluid flowing in a pipe, and is equal to the product of the fluid's relaxation time and its dynamic viscosity, divided by the product of the fluid's density and the square of the radius of the pipe.
