Barocco
BAROCCO
BAROCCO Balloon Angioplasty vs ROTACS for total Chronic Coronary Occlusion trial. A randomised study of percutaneous coronary angioplasty (PTCA) vs ROTACS (a battery-driven, over-the-wire catheter comprised of several helical stainless-steel coils, and a moveable polyethylene or polyolefin sheath) for managing chronic total coronary occlusions. Results ROTACS had a 40% success rate vs 52% for PTCA; PTCA was able to salvage 59% of ROTACS failures; only 17% of PTCA failures could be salvaged by ROTACS. The ROTACS is rarely used and not available in the USA. |
