Canaanites

ancient Semitic tribes (seeSEMITES) that inhabited Canaan. The Canaanites comprised a wide variety of tribes, including Ugarites, Amorites, Cohenites, several Hebrew tribes, Moabites, and Ammonites. They spoke dialects of a single Semitic language, ancient Canaanite, which closely resembled biblical Hebrew.
