Blind River


Blind River,

town (1991 pop. 3,355), S Ont., Canada, on North Channel of Lake Huron. It is the center of the Algoma uranium fields. Just to the east of the town is Ontario's first uranium mine (1955).

Blind River

 

a city in eastern Canada on the shore of Lake Huron in the province of Ontario. Population, approximately 3,000. It became a major base for the extraction of uranium ore in Canada in the mid-1950’s. Near Blind River in 1955 the city of Elliot Lake arose, where the uranium-mine workers lived.
