Etiology

Uncoupling of eye movements may occur in many diseases and conditions, including injuries to the oculomotor nerves; fractures of the orbit; strokes affecting the brainstem, frontal lobes, or cerebrum; multiple sclerosis; some nutritional deficiencies (e.g., Wernicke-Korsakoff's syndrome); and Bell's palsy.
