Elastik
Elastik
a fluffy high-tensile textured yarn that has a high stretchability (up to 400 percent), a great bulk, and a helical crimp. Elastik is made from compound synthetic fibers, mainly polyamide or polyester.
In the production of elastik, the compound synthetic fibers are twisted up to 2,500–5,000 twists per meter and then subjected to heat treatment and subsequent cooling to set the texture obtained by twisting. The heat-set yarn is untwisted, and individual fibers that have acquired S-twists and Z-twists are then paired and loosely twisted (50–100 twists per meter).
Elastik is produced by means of continuous-type machines. It is used to manufacture hosiery, sportswear, and fabrics for making, for example, dresses and blouses. The characteristics of articles made of elastik include a high shape retention, an enhanced absorbency, and good heat insulating properties.
Similar yarns produced outside the USSR include Helanca, Fluflon, Superloft, and Elastisch.
