Elastoplastic Wave

Elastoplastic Wave

an elastic wave in which the amplitude of deformation is so large that the stress exceeds the elastic limit of a material and plastic deformation occurs as the wave passes through the material. The rate of propagation of elasto plastic waves depends on the amount of deformation. Permanent set, or permanent deformation, remains in a rod after an elasto plastic wave passes through the rod. The distribution of the permanent set may be used to evaluate the dynamic mechanical properties of a given material.
