a sudden contraction of the triceps muscle caused by a smart tap on its tendon when the forearm hangs loosely at a right angle with the arm. Synonym(s): elbow jerk, elbow reflex

biceps reflex

A reflex contraction of the biceps brachii used to assess the C5 and C6 reflex arcs.
Technique
With the arm gently flexed at the elbow, tap the biceps tendon with a reflex hammer; the tendon can be located with the thumb.
 
Abnormal in
Damage to the musculocutaneous nerve, C5/6 at the root or above in the spinal cord.
