Elbrus, Mount

(ĕlbro͝os`, ālbro͞os`), highest mountain of the Caucasus, SE European Russia, in Georgia, formed by two extinct volcanic cones, respectively 18,481 ft (5,633 m) and 18,356 ft (5,595 m) high. Its glaciers give rise to several rivers, notably the Kuban. The snow line is at c.11,000 ft (3,350 m).
