A term of art used by the Royal College of Pathologists (UK) for a (true) diagnosis which differs from the diagnosis rendered by the original pathologist.Categories of discrepancies in microscopy
(1) A diagnosis which is surprising from any pathologist—e.g., obvious cancer reported as benign.
(2) A diagnosis which is quite clearly incorrect, but which one is not surprised to see a small percentage of pathologists suggesting.
(3) A diagnosis for which inter-observer variation is known to be large.
