Exfoliative Dermatitis in newborn infants, a severe form of epidemic impetigo caused by staphylococci. Initial symptoms are temperature reaction and nausea. Redness, edema, and large blisters soon appear on the neck and around the umbilicus, anus, and genitalia. Lancing the blisters reveals weeping erosions. Exfoliative dermatitis is accompanied by high temperature, digestive disorders, and loss of weight. Possible complications include pneumonia, otitis, and sepsis. exfoliative dermatitis
