Location:South of Mena in west central Arkansas. Northern route is via AK 246between Vandervoort and Athens; southern route is via US 278 betweenWickes and Umpire.
Facilities:Tent campsites with no hookups (Cossatot Falls and Sandbar areas);picnic sites, restrooms, river access points (Brushy Creek RecreationArea at the Hwy 246 bridge); hiking trails; visitor center with exhibits, gift shop, meeting rooms.
Activities:Whitewater canoeing and kayaking, hiking, interpretive programs.
Special Features:Parkland extends for 12 miles along the Cossatot River, reputed to havethe best whitewater float stream in mid-America. The river formsCossatot Falls, a rugged and rocky canyon with Class IV rapids. (Flowlevels are dependent on rainfall, so floatable river levels usually arelimited to late fall, winter, and spring.)
