blow-bottles blow-bot·tles (blō bot'ĕlz) A device consisting of two 1-L bottles connected to a tube used to prevent atelectasis and maintain lung expansion in postsurgical patients. The patient forces water from one bottle to another with a series of slow exhalations, each preceded by a deep inhalation.
