释义 | Child, Charles M.Child, Charles M. (Manning)(1869–1954) developmental biologist; born in Ypsilanti, Mich. He taught and performed research at the University of Chicago (1895–1934), spending summers at various institutions for marine biology. After his retirement, he moved to Stanford University (1939–54), where he remained active in both education and scientific publishing. He made major contributions to studies of the origin and development of the invertebrate nervous system. He is best known for his "gradient theory" of regeneration (1911), which states that the dominant section of the regenerating part is developed first. He founded the journal Physiological Zoology in 1928. |
