Daché, Lilly

(1892–1989) fashion designer; born in Bèigles, France. Apprenticed to her milliner aunt at age 12, she emigrated to the U.S.A. as a teenager. She owned the House of Daché in New York (1920s–1968), where her thousands of hat designs came to identify her indelibly with hats, particularly her signature turbans, half-hats, and snoods.
