Blow up a Customer

Slang; to convince a client to take a position on an investment vehicle that causes the client to lose a great deal of money and close the position (possibly withdrawing from the market) at a large loss. The term was popularized by the book Liar's Poker, which describes the author's experience as a bond trader on Wall Street in the 1980s.
