dacryocystorhinostomy

An operation to provide a new passage from the LACRIMAL SAC, through the lacrimal bone, to the inside of the nose so as to re-establish tear drainage when the nasolacrimal duct is blocked. Formerly done by cutting bone through an incision near the bridge of the nose, the procedure is now being performed using a laser probe via the nostril and a light source via a tear duct. This is called endonasal laser-assisted dacryocystorhinostomy.
