Farhat Hached
Hached, Farhat
Born Feb. 2, 1914; died Dec. 5, 1952. Tunisian political figure and a leader of the Tunisian trade-union movement.
The son of a fisherman, Hached took part in the national liberation and trade-union movements from 1938. After founding the General Union of Tunisian Workers in January 1946, he served as its general secretary. After the arrest of H. Bourguiba in January 1952 he assumed leadership of the Tunisian national liberation movement. Hached was killed by a French terrorist.
