Faribault

(fâr`ĭbō), city (1990 pop. 17,085), seat of Rice co., SE Minn.; inc. 1872. Faribault has a variety of manufactures in addition to its large floral nurseries. It is noted for its peony farms. The city was founded in 1826 by Alexander Faribault, a French fur trader. In the city are state schools for the blind, the deaf, and the mentally retarded.
