Farkhad Reservoir

 

a reservoir formed in 1947 by the dam of the Farkhad Hydroelectric Power Plant on the Syr Darya River, it is located in the Tadzhik SSR and Uzbek SSR. The Farkhad Reservoir has an area of 48 sq km, a volume of 350 million cu m, a length of 46 km, a maximum width of 3.1 km, and an average depth of 7 m. The water level fluctuates within a range of 1 m. The reservoir regulates the weekly and daily water flow and forms a reliable source of water for irrigating large expanses of the Golodnaia and Dal’verzin steppes. The city of Leninabad is located near the area where the backwater tapers off.
