Chile Basin

Chile Basin

an ocean basin in the southeastern Pacific. It is bounded on the east by the Peru-Chile Trench, on the northwest by the Sala-y-Gómez and Nazca underwater ridges, and on the southwest by the West Chile Ridge. The maximum depth is about 4,800 m. Abyssal hills predominate, although individual underwater mountains have relative elevations of up to 4,000 m. Bottom sediments are mainly aleuritic argillaceous carbonate oozes.
