Electrical Engineering Institutes

in the USSR, higher educational institutions for training specialists in electrical engineering, electromechanics, and electric power engineering for various branches of the national economy concerned with the practical applications of electricity.

Of the two such specialized institutes operating in the USSR in 1980, the older is the V. I. Ul’ianov (Lenin) Leningrad Electrical Engineering Institute (see). The Novosibirsk Institute of Electrical Engineering (founded 1950) has departments of radio engineering, automation and computer technology, automatic control systems, electronics engineering, physics technology, electromechanics, electric power engineering, machine building, electrical installation engineering, aircraft production, and instrument design; it has evening, correspondence, and preparatory divisions. The training period in electrical engineering institutes is from five to six years. Electrical engineers are also trained in the departments of other higher technical educational institutions.
