单词 | cottage hospital |
释义 | cottage hospitalcottage hospitalcottage hospitalcottage hospitalcottage hospitalcottage hospitalOne of the small rural hospitals with up to 25 beds which were established in the 19th century in the UK, first by Sir Astley Cooper, who converted some cottages near Hemel Hempstead for that purpose in 1827. The advantage of such rural hospitals was that local doctors familiar with the patients could better manage them than could the nearest county hospital. While services and personnel in most cottage hospitals have been largely absorbed into district general hospitals (DGHs) of the NHS, some cottage hospitals, especially in Scotland, are still in operation. |
