Fox, Oliver (1885–1949)

“O liver Fox” was a pseudonym of Hugh G. Callaway, a British pioneer exponent of astral projection. He was born in Southampton on November 30, 1885. He studied science and electrical engineering at Harley Institute, in Southampton. He experienced his first astral projection at the age of seventeen.

In 1907, Callaway/Fox married Bertha Knight. He briefly joined a theatrical touring company and then invested in two unsuccessful businesses. In 1910, Fox inherited a small legacy and wrote poetry and short stories with some success. In 1919, the couple moved to London and his writing took an occult emphasis. After publishing a number of articles in the Occult Review, he published Astral Projection: a Record of Out-of-Body Experiences. It was the first major British publication on the subject. He died on April 28, 1949.
