(networking, body)(CIX) The CIX is a non-profit, 501(c)6,trade association coordinating Internet services. Itsmember organisations provide TCP/IP or OSI datainternetwork services to the general public. The CIX givesthem unrestricted access to other worldwide networks. It alsotakes an interest in the development and future direction ofthe Internet.

The CIX provides a neutral forum to exchange ideas,information, and experimental projects among suppliers ofinternetworking services. The CIX broadens the base ofnational and international cooperation and coordination amongmember networks. Together, the membership may developconsensus positions on legislative and policy issues of mutualinterest.

The CIX encourages technical research and development for themutual benefit of suppliers and customers of datacommunications internetworking services. It assists itsmember networks in the establishment of, and adherence to,operational, technical, and administrative policies andstandards necessary to ensure fair, open, and competitiveoperations and communication among member networks. CIXpolicies are formulated by a member-elected board ofdirectors.
