Euphronius

Euphronius

an ancient Attic vase painter and potter of the late sixth and early fifth century B.C.

Euphronius, a preeminent representative of the “severe style,” may have begun in the black-figure technique. In his decorations, which had mythological and genre subjects, he sought to render complex movements. Works by Euphronius include the kylikes Battle of Heracles and Gervon and Horsemen, both in the Museum Antiker Kleinkunst in Munich, the crater Battle of Heracles With Antaeus, and Psycter With Hetaerae, which is in the Hermitage in Lenin-grad. Euphronius may also be the potter of the Pelike With Swallow.
