Dalewscy

family name of several participants in the Polish national liberation movement in Lithuania from the 1840’s to the I860’s. In 1845, Frantsićek Dalewscy (1825–1904), a student at the Gymnasium in Vil’nius, and his brother Aleksandras created the Fraternal Union, an underground organization that renamed itself the Union of Lithuanian Youth in 1846. Frantsicek was condemned to death, but the sentence was reduced to 15 years at hard labor. Having returned to Vil’nius in 1860. he took an active part in the Polish national liberation uprising of 1863 as a member of the rebel committee of “whites” in Vil’nius. In July 1863 he was arrested and sentenced to 20 years at hard labor. For his part in the Union of Lithuanian Youth. Aléksandras Dalewscy (1827–62) was sentenced to ten years at hard labor. Two other Dalewscy brothers, Konstantas and Titus, and their sister Apolonie also took part in the national liberation movement.
