Bobrov, Aleksandr Alekseevich

Born May 30 (June 11), 1850, in Orel; died Nov. 26 (Dec. 9), 1904, in Alupka. Russian surgeon.

Bobrov graduated from Moscow University in 1874. In 1881 he became an assistant professor, and in 1885, a professor, in the subdepartment of operative surgery and surgical anatomy there; in 1893 he was appointed professor at the department surgical clinic. Bobrov proposed a method for operating on free hernias (1892) and constructed an apparatus, which bears his name, for the subcutaneous infusion of a saline solution. He was one of the initiators and organizers of surgical congresses. The children’s bone tuberculosis sanatorium in the Crimea (Alupka) that bears his name was built on his initiative.
