Committees of Correspondence in the USA

organizations that arose on the eve of the War of Independence in North America (1775–83) and became the basis for local revolutionary authority in the 13 North American colonies. They directed the formation of a militia and maintained contact between the colonies. During the war most of them were reorganized as committees of safety.
