use of an ultrasound imaging device on the tip of an endoscope for evaluation of bowel wall and adjacent structures; often used for staging esophageal, gastric, pancreatic, and rectal tumors.

Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)

A medical procedure in which sound waves are sent to the stomach wall by an ultrasound probe attached to the end of an endoscope.
