An individual or a limited partnership that operates a commodity pool. That is, a commodity pool is a fund in which investors contribute capital for participation in the futures and option markets. The commodity pool operator is either the management of the commodity pool or, more commonly, is hired by management to make investment decisions on behalf of the pool. Generally speaking, a person or company hired to serve as a commodity pool operator is a licensed commodity trading adviser.
