Location:Northeast of Yosemite, 13 miles east of Highway 395 on Bodie Road.

Special Features:Park preserves a genuine California gold-mining ghost town. When theStandard Company struck pay dirt in 1877, a gold rush transformed Bodiefrom a tiny hamlet into a boomtown of 10,000 people. A small part ofthe town survives, preserved in a state of "arrested decay." Bodie isopen all year; however, because of the high elevation, it is accessibleonly by over-snow equipment during the winter months. The park's visitor center/museumis open only during the summer months, from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
