(al-Dammam), a city in Saudi Arabia, the administrative center of Eastern Province. Population, approximately 20,000. It is a port on the Persian Gulf; about 70 percent of all imported goods pass through Dammam (grain, tea. coffee, sugar, and textiles and other industrial goods). It is connected by railroad to Riyadh. It is located in an important oil region (including the Dammam and Abgaig fields). It is also a fishing center.
