Cape Folded Zone

Cape Folded Zone

a belt of middle Upper Paleozoic and Lower Triassic folded deposits in the extreme south of Africa (Republic of South Africa).

The course of the Cape Folded Zone is westward in the east and northwest in the west. An older Upper Proterozoic metamorphic foundation is exposed at the core of some of the uplifts. The folding is Middle Triassic. Some researchers suggest that the Cape Folded Zone constitutes the eastern continuation of the displacement of the sierras in Argentina.
