Counterbattery Activities

the organization and use of artillery and mortar fire to neutralize and destroy enemy artillery and mortar batteries. During World War I (1914–18) and World War II (1939–45) special artillery groups were singled out to perform counterbattery activities. Under present-day conditions artillery, tactical missiles, and aviation may be used to neutralize and destroy enemy artillery.
