bodypart as object gesture bodypart as object gesture A body part as object (BPO) gesture is an error pattern seen in ideomotor apraxia, in which patients represent objects using their hands—e.g., the wrist is held stiff to represent a hammer; the finger is held rigid and the hand twists to represent a key in a lock. The BPO gesture is similar to ordinary pantomime in normal subjects by functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI); both activate the left parietal areas (Brodmann's area (BA) 7, 40), irrespective of the hand used. |
