[′kap·ə‚ ler·ē i‚lek′träm·əd·ər] (engineering) An electrometer designed to measure a small potential difference between mercury and an electrolytic solution in a capillary tube by measuring the effect of this potential difference on the surface tension between the liquids. Also known as Lippmann electrometer.
