Electrification of Agriculture, Institute for the

(full name, All-Union Scientific Research Institute for the Electrification of Agriculture of the V. I. Lenin All-Union Academy of Agricultural Sciences), a Soviet research institute. Established in 1931, it is located in Moscow.

As of 1978, the institute’s departments included the following: integrated mechanization and electrification of dairy farms and complexes; production lines for feed making; electric-power supply and operation of electrical installations; and automation of swine, sheep, and poultry farms and complexes. As of the same year, the institute had a design office and several laboratories, including a laboratory for applied optical radiation and a laboratory of electrically controlled heat processes. The institute has branches in Tambov and Smolensk and operates the Istra Experimental Farm in Moscow Oblast.

Research in the electrification of agriculture is carried out at the institute. Graduate studies may be pursued either in residence or by correspondence. The institute publishes Nauchnye trudy po eleklrifikatsii sel’skogo khoziaistva (Scientific Works on the Electrification of Agriculture) and Nauchno-tekhnicheskii biulleten’ po eleklrifikatsii sel’skogo khoziaistva (Scientific and Technical Bulletin on the Electrification of Agriculture).
