Boggs, Thomas Hale, Sr. Boggs, Thomas Hale, Sr.(1914–73) U.S. representative; born in Long Beach, Miss. A graduate of Tulane, he practiced law before going to the U.S. House of Representatives (Dem., La.; 1941–43) and served in the Potomac River Naval Command during World War II. He returned to Congress (1947–73) and chaired the Special Committee on Campaign Expenditures in 1951. He became majority whip (1961–71) and was majority leader of the Democrats when his plane disappeared over Alaska. |
