Bogle, John Clifton

(1929– ) investment banker; born in Montclair, N.J. He graduated from Princeton in 1951 and attended the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. Joining the Wellington Management Company of Philadelphia in 1951, he rose to become president and chief executive officer from 1967–74. He later founded the Vanguard Group, a marketer of low-cost mutual funds, in Valley Forge, Pa. He served as a director of several investment companies and contributed numerous articles to professional financial journals.
