Bogoliubov, Aleksandr

Born May 16(29), 1900, in Cheboksary, Kazan Province; died Feb. 28, 1956, in Moscow. Colonel-general (1945). Hero of the Soviet Union (May 29, 1945). Member of the CPSU from 1932. Born into the family of a worker.

Bogoliubov volunteered for the Red Army in October 1918 and participated in the Civil War. He graduated from the Higher Military Troop-Distribution School (1920), the Higher Military School of Communications (1924), the Frunze Military Academy (1931), and the Academy of the General Staff (1938). During the Great Patriotic War of 1941–45 he was chief of the operations section of the staff of the Reserve Front (July to October 1941), chief of staff of the 43rd Army (October 1941 to August 1942 and September to December 1942), deputy chief of the Operations Administration of the General Staff (August to September 1942 and December 1942 to March 1943), and chief of staff of the First Ukrainian and Second Byelorussian fronts from March 1943. After the war he was deputy chief of the Frunze Military Academy, assistant commander in chief of troops in the Far East (1951–53), and deputy chief of the Central Administration for Battle Training of the Land Forces (1953–55). He was in the reserves from 1955. He was awarded two Orders of Lenin, four Orders of the Red Banner, two Orders of Suvorov First Class, Orders of Kutuzov First Class and Bogdan Khmel’nitskii First Class, medals, and three foreign orders.
